Match Report 2002-2003

Tuesday 23 July, 2002, Friendly

Chesterfield away

Chesterfield 2
Rob Edwards 1-0
Mark Allott 2-0
Bradford City 1
Andy Gray 2-1

Nicky Law went back to his old stomping ground with a new idea. City with a back three of David Wetherall, Mark Bower and Andy Myers. On paper it must seem like a good idea. Wetherall's head, Myers pace, Bower's youth, but on the pitch City looked ragged and fell behind to a Rob Edwards goal.

Tom Kearney went closest for City with a shot over the bar and debut boy Rob Taylor has one chance blocked by a last gasp tackle.

Nicky Law changed his side drastically in the second half only to see Mark Allott double the home side's lead. Trialist Andy Gray pulled one back for City late on.

Law conceeded that his three at the back system, which reverted to 442 after an hour, was not working. Said Law "We could see it wasn't working but we were far better when we went to 442." After the switch back to 442 City took control of the game with Gary Locke as the Bantams driving force in the middle.

Rob Taylor did enough to impress Nicky Law into giving him another chance against Huddersfield in the closed doors game on Thursday afternoon.
