Report for March 2002

Hall of fame

Edinho

The original Boy From Brazil was Edinho, and this is his story.

Employee of the month

Mark Bower

City's future is in the hands of Nicky Law and Nicky Law entrusted that future to a guy that none of us thought was up to the job. A year at York without catching headlines and a host of reserve games lost did nothing to suggest that when Law put Mark Bower into the side City would become more defensively solid than at anytime over the whole season.

Bower played himself into a new contract and brings springs of hope to City and great credit to Law for making the man out of the boy.

Goal of the month

Stuart McCall's 25 yard power drive against Crewe

Claus Jorgensen looked to be wasting time at a corner but his Gascoigne-esque dropped shoulder took him past teh Crewe defender and allowed him time to pick out Stuart McCall on the edge of the box, the City skipper powered a lower shot into the back of the vistors net to secure first division football next term.

On-field positive

Claus Jorgensen, Mark Bower, Danny Cadamarteri, Tom Kearney, Alan Combe. All players who looked to have been cast aside by clubs that Nicky Law has spotted and made good.

On-field negative

Lee Sharpe inability to string performances together because, by the look of things, he simply cannot be bothered.

Off-field positive

We are starting to bring in decent young players.

Off-field negative

The pitch is very poor and will not get better during a summer of rugby.

Funny

Crewe at home wasnot that exciting but it seemed to have an effect on the guy who came on wearing all kinds of nothing and streaked around the pitch to end up shaking Danny Cadarteri's hand and being roughly handled away by Stewards.

Not funny

The ITV Digital deal falling apart. City might do well out of it, but football at this level will not.
